Benazir Bhutto Hospital

Benazir Bhutto Hospital (BBH), commonly known as Rawalpindi General Hospital, is a major tertiary care hospital located on Murree Road in Rawalpindi. Established in 1957 and now serving as a 750-bed facility, BBH is affiliated with Rawalpindi Medical University and serves as a primary training ground for undergraduate and postgraduate medical education. It offers an extensive range of advanced clinical services including medicine, surgery, gynecology & obstetrics, pediatrics, orthopedics, cardiology, psychiatry, ophthalmology, urology, dermatology, radiology, and a recently established renal transplant center. The Institute of Psychiatry within BBH is recognized as a WHO Regional Center for Mental Health, providing specialized services and training for mental health professionals across the Eastern Mediterranean region.

The hospital operates a round‑the‑clock emergency department, handling hundreds of thousands of patients each year, including road traffic accident victims, heart patients, kidney cases, and pediatric emergencies. Despite infrastructure challenges—such as the recent ceiling collapse in the OPD corridor—BBH continues to provide critical public healthcare to underserved populations. Serving residents of Rawalpindi, Islamabad, surrounding Punjab regions, AJK, and KPK, Benazir Bhutto Hospital remains a vital institution for tertiary-level care, medical training, and public health initiatives in the region.
